Ingredients
2-4 Ground chuck (80% lean/20% fat) patties about 1/3 pound each
Thick-cut bacon strip for each patty
Cheese slices
Hamburger buns
Kosher salt
Ground black pepper
Burger toppings
Directions
- Prep Your Outdoor Electric Grill
- For Grilled Bacon Cheeseburgers, put 1½ Tablespoons wood pellets in the smoker tube. Evenly distribute the pellets so that they are in a single layer in the tube.
- Uncover grill. Plug into the outlet and press Reset, Test, and Reset again on the cord’s safety device.
- Place the smoker tube toward the back of the grill, close the lid, and preheat for 25 minutes on High.
- Prep the Burgers for the Electric Grill
- Remove the bacon and ground chuck from the refrigerator 20-30 minutes before grilling.
- If using bulk ground chuck, divide and shape into patties.
- Sprinkle both sides of the patties with salt and black pepper.
- Grill the Burgers on the Electric Grill
- After your outdoor electric grill has preheated, place the patties on the grill. Keep the lid closed unless you are turning the food.
- Do not press down on the patties with the turner. Pressing the patties does not aid in cooking and makes them less moist by squeezing out the juices.
- Grill on High Heat for 5 minutes.
- Turn patties over with a long grill turner and place bacon on the grill. Cook for 5-7 minutes. The USDA recommends ground beef be cooked to an internal temperature of 160F. If you prefer yours less than well-done, remove the patties at the lower end of the time range. See Outdoor Electric Grill Cooking for the temperature chart.
- Move the patties to a plate and turn the bacon over.
- While the patties are resting for a few minutes, finish cooking bacon and toast both halves of the buns cut side down on the grill for 2 minutes.
- Remove bacon and buns when done.
- Top each patty with a cheese slice and a strip of bacon cut in half.
- Serve your grilled bacon cheeseburgers with your favorite toppings.
- Clean Your Outdoor Electric Grill
- After removing the Grilled Bacon Cheeseburgers, close your outdoor electric grill lid and leave it on High for 10 minutes.
- Turn the grill off. Leave the lid closed for at least 10 minutes or until you are ready to clean the grill.
- While the grill is still warm, brush the grill grate with a stainless steel grill brush.
- Leave the lid open to let the grill cool down and wood pellets burn out.
- Lift the grates and use a plastic putty knife to lightly scrape debris from the bottom of them and the lower bowl through the hole into the drip pan.
- Wipe the grates and inside of the lid with a dry paper towel to remove any remaining loose debris.
- Remove the aluminum foil drip pan liner.
- Careful to make sure the smoker tube is cool, empty ash from the smoker tube into the drip pan liner. Place a small amount of water on the ash in the pan to ensure the ash is wet and cold.
- Wipe the drip pan liner out with a paper towel into a trash can and wash it with hot water and soap. Dry and return to grill.
- Unplug the grill and replace the cover.
